Discover Sofia's Cafe, a friendly independent British café at 28 New St, Wellington, Telford TF1 1NE, United Kingdom, where hearty breakfasts, generously filled sandwiches, traditional lunches, homemade-style desserts, and carefully prepared hot drinks come together in a relaxed neighbourhood setting. From a food blogger’s perspective, Sofia's Cafe has the qualities people often look for in a dependable local café: sensible prices, substantial portions, an approachable menu, and service that regular customers describe as genuinely welcoming. Recent Tripadvisor data gives the café a 4.9 rating from around 160 reviews.
The menu is firmly rooted in British café classics. Diners can choose cooked breakfasts, bacon and sausage sandwiches, toasties, burgers, salads, chilli con carne, steak baguettes, ham with egg and chips, children’s meals, tea, coffee, cappuccinos, hot chocolate, and cold drinks. Vegetarian and vegan options are available, while the café is generally considered inexpensive, with current listings placing most meals in the budget-friendly range. Table service, takeaway, wheelchair accessibility, highchairs, and comfortable seating make it practical for families, solo diners, and casual lunches.
A natural first order at Sofia's Cafe in Wellington is the Full English Breakfast. Customers regularly praise both the large and small versions, highlighting generous portions and freshly cooked ingredients. The combination of eggs, sausages, bacon, beans, toast, and familiar breakfast accompaniments makes it particularly suitable for anyone wanting a substantial start to the day. A January 2026 visitor described the large breakfast as impressively filling while also praising the café’s latte and tea.
The Scrambled Eggs on Toast are another deceptively simple highlight. In an October 2025 review, one diner called the scrambled egg the “best I have ever eaten,” while also noting that the portion exceeded expectations. That kind of feedback suggests the kitchen pays attention even to straightforward dishes, where texture, seasoning, and timing matter more than elaborate ingredients.
For lunch, the Chicken, Bacon and Mayo Toastie is an appealing choice. Toasted bread gives the sandwich a crisp exterior, while chicken, smoky bacon, and creamy mayonnaise provide a rich, comforting filling. A 2025 customer paired it with a cappuccino and a Battenberg blondie, describing the food as excellent and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere at Sofia's Cafe is casual, clean, and notably warm. Multiple recent reviews mention friendly staff, quick service, generous portions, and a “home from home” feeling. The café’s appeal is less about trendy décor and more about personal hospitality and an uncomplicated setting where customers can relax over breakfast or lunch.
Desserts provide an extra reason to linger, with apple pie, chocolate sponge pudding, Belgian waffles with ice cream, cakes, blondies, and hot chocolate among the sweeter options. The main limitation is the daytime schedule: the café closes by mid-afternoon and is closed on Sundays.

Took my mum and my niece for lunch yesterday while shopping in Wellington. Service and staff was lovely, and our food was fabulous! I had the large breakfast while my niece had the small breakfast and mum just fancied a hot sausage roll! My breakfast was a big one! We had this with latte and tea. We all enjoyed our lunch, thanks to Sophia's staff
